The SONiQ collective – featuring saxophonist and clarinetist Christina Fuchs, pianist Jarry Singla, and percussionist Ramesh Shotham – has been promoting creative dialogue between cultures and sound worlds for many years. In their music, jazz, classical elements, and non-European traditions merge to create an extraordinary ensemble sound.
This project marks their first collaboration as a collective with the Cologne-based program NICA, which Stefan Schönegg is currently part of. The NICA artist development offers outstanding musicians from NRW working in the field of jazz and contemporary music a platform for artistic profiling and professionalisation of their careers.
The artist development programme, which is funded by the Ministry of Culture and Science of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia, started in autumn 2019 as a pilot project at the European Centre for Jazz and Contemporary Music at Stadtgarten.
